So, to fill you in on the past few months of Elder Barney's mission journey…
Elder Barney headed to the Provo MTC on July 17, 2013. He was there until July 30, 2013 then boarded a plane to the Washington, Seattle Mission. His Mission President was Elder Yoon Hwan Choi (of the Seventy) and his first companion was his trainer, Elder Brown from West Jordan. He started his mission service in Kenmore - and loved the area. He had many experiences that helped strengthen his testimony of the Savior, and love for the people of Kenmore.
He started having some medical issues within just a couple weeks of arriving in the Kenmore area which proved to be quite the ordeal and frustration for him. After a few months of dealing with these issues, he came home to get them taken care of. He was released as a missionary on December 2, 2013.
When he first came home, adjusting to life back home proved to be a bit difficult. He was counseled to live as close to the mission rules as possible, and tried to do all the things asked of him.
We went to doctor after doctor to try to figure out what was going on, but couldn't find anything - yet he was still having the symptoms and problems. We sought 2nd opinions, and quickly realized there was much more going on. We went to General Physicians, Orthopedists, Rheumatologists, Spine Doctors and more…to no avail.
By the middle of January, he had seen so many doctors, we were just about at our wits end - when we finally saw a light. As he followed advice from the Neck/Spine doctor, he was finally seeing some relief from the pain. It took a while - having many physical as well as spiritual experiences - to show him the the Lord was looking out for him. I won't share any of those experiences here, because they are very personal and sacred to him. But I will say that Elder Barney will never be able to doubt that the Lord was very aware of him and that the Lord loves him.
I am thankful that the Lord is there for us - always.
